Johnny Boost From what I can tell, BMW only generates new keys every few days. What that means is, 'by date' works, but only if your vehicle build date matches one of the dates in the lookup table.

Right now, there are only ~25 dates in the lookup table, and the lookup table spans 2009-2014. This means you are more likely not to have a match, than to have one. However, it is worth a try, since it doesn't take much time at all to lookup your VIN build date online and see if it matches one available in the generator.
